Gateway Success

It has been a fabulous year for our gateway students. We reached our target of an average 20+ credits per students and offered worthwhile placements. On top of that some students have

gained part or fulltime work from their experiences and two have apprenticeships for 2019.

Congratulations to our top students; in Y13 were Brandon Picket Rust and Kane Inskeep and in

Y12 it was Joshua Roach and April-Rose Ellington. A huge thanks must go to all our supportive businesses and we look forward to working alongside you again next year. Great work everybody.

Preparation for Gateway 2019 is already underway, so if you have indicated you would like to be part of the Gateway programme, information packs will be available on course confirmation days.

Toi Ohomai Trades Academy

It has been a busy year for Mattis Shaw who had a near perfect attendance record and gained 27 credits at level 3 in Automotive Engineering.  Mattis was also awarded the Top Achiever Award for 2018. Congratulations again and we wish you all the best for your continued study at Toi Ohomai next year.

We are waiting for Toi Ohomai to confirm trades academy places for next year, but it looks like

we will have a big cohort making good use of this fantastic opportunity. Students have chosen studies in Sport and Health areas, Hospitality, Engineering, Automotive and Carpentry.

Confirmation of courses will be available on course confirmation days in January.

Careers in General

We had students attend the bi-annual Taupo District Careers Roadshow at the Great Lake Centre earlier this year. It was a great opportunity for students to start thinking about possible pathways and to gather information and ask questions. We would like to thank Taupo Pathways for organising most of this. Also, in November we had the InZone careers bus visit. Both of these events are supported by local businesses and we appreciate their support.

All senior students were invited and encouraged to attend one-on-one careers interviews with the careers advisor in terms one, two and three. These are always very useful sessions; to provoke thought, support ideas, get information and for future planning. Many parents choose to attend as well, and this is always welcomed. Appointments can be made at other times, just contact our department.

We are looking forward to a well-earned break so we can return fully recharged for 2019.
