Tauhara Primary School - February 21, 2025
Tauhara Primary School is situated on the corner of Crown Road and Taharepa Road in Taupō. Our School Board, Parent Teacher Association, Advance Church and Hapū and Mana Whenua are very supportive and work alongside us to ensure our tamariki receive the highest quality education, guidance and care as part of Te Kura Tuatahi o Tauhara (Tauhara Primary School).

Our leadership team includes the Principal, two Deputy Principals and four leaders who support classroom release and relieving responsibilities across the school. Each leader brings collective support to the school building the capability of their teams and individually specialising in Mathematics, Literacy, Digital learning, Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori, Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)/Te Arawhakamana and Learning Support working to build school wide capability across our staff. We have 12 classroom teachers, eight who teach in English medium and four who teach in Māori medium. Our English medium classes are located in Rooms 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6/6a and 11. We have our newly established Rūmaki unit. This consists of four classroom teachers, two who are beginning teachers. There are also two LAT (Limited Authority to Teach) Kaiako and a part-time Kaiawhina. Our Māori medium classes are located in Room 7, 8, 9 and 10. We have three specialist ORs teachers, a full-time literacy teacher and two fixed term teachers to support our growing school. We also have 15 learning support assistants, a shared full-time Administrative Officer, a part-time Property manager and a caretaker’s assistant. We employ a Resource Teacher of Literacy (RTLit) and three Learning Support Coordinator (LSC) teachers. Two teachers are based here at Tauhara Primary and one teacher is based at Tauhara College. We have a Social Worker in Schools (SWiS) to support our students at home and at school and a Public Health nurse who works at school each Friday.
Our students each have their own iPad device and work to make full use of Apple Applications to support an integrated learning programme. All students are part of the Mathletic and Reading online programmes to accelerate Mathematic and Literacy programmes. Teachers work with students who are able to use the online Writer’s Toolbox resource to support writing. Our newly structured timetables and planning include structured literacy and structured mathematics programmes. All students participate in Taiopenga Tūwharetoa led by our specialist Kapa Haka tutors, and school wide and inter school sporting activities. Tauhara Primary uses See-Saw to record student daily learning programmes. We encourage our parents to dialogue with their child and teacher using See-Saw. Our Senior Student programmes include: EPRO 8 Digital Technology, Leadership Programmes (Gold, Silver and Bronze), Camp and School wide and Inter School PE and Sporting activities.
Our Junior programme includes Play Based Learning as part of their transition from Early
Childhood education and entry into Primary schooling and specialist and support teachers who teach structured literacy and structured mathematics in the Junior school.
