Kia ora e te whānau
It was a sad week for our school community as we supported our Hornsey whānau with the passing of Rod Hornsey. He is husband to Lynne, father to Laura, Jessica and Amy, grandfather to Harper. Lynne is one of our most long standing, dedicated staff members of Tauhara Primary, having worked at our kura for the last 24 years. Laura has been a teacher at Tauhara for eight years and older sister Amy has been a member of the PTA for the last two years. Harper is a student at Tauhara Primary and daughter of Amy. She started here as a new entrant who is now in year five. The Hornsey Whānau are very involved with our school, well respected and much loved. Sending all our love to Lynne, Laura, Amy, Jessica, Harper and the extended Hornsey and Delany families as well.
We want to take this opportunity to thank Mania Crosby who has been a kaiako at Tauhara Primary School for just short of 10 years this August. Mania leaves our school to teach at Te Kura o Waitahanui. At our farewell assembly yesterday, we acknowledged Mania and her mahi and contribution she has made to Tauhara Primary during that time. She is a teacher with huge passion, aroha and care for tamariki in her classes having taught from Year 1 to Year 6 during her time here. She is an enthusiastic, optimistic kaiako who uplifts all those around her. Whaea Mania will be teaching at Te Kura o Waitahanui from next term onwards, combining two of her passions, Teaching and Te Reo Māori. The staff and Board will honour and celebrate Mania tonight as we wish her all the very best at Te Kura o Waitahanui.
Reports will come home with your child today. We have also loaded the reports on See Saw for those families who use See Saw and want to share progress with whānau across the country or overseas. We have student led conferences in week two of term three so if there are any questions, queries or feed back you would like to share, please have this ready to talk about with your child's teacher. Please let your child's teacher know if you wish to have an individual student led conference with them.
Looking ahead to 2024, the Board is working with the Ministry to establish a Reo Rua/Rumaki class. Currently the Board are surveying our community to see if there is support for the establishment of a Reo Rua/Rumaki class. I will let our community know the results of the survey after the holiday break and keep our community updated with this initiative.
The Board has approved the installation of 15 cameras to be installed during the holiday break. Thank you to Mere Wall who is seeking funding on behalf of the school to support this initiative. We hope this will help to ensure that our school is kept safe over the breaks especially during the Christmas break. If you do see anything suspicious please notify the school via face book or contact staff.
Our roll has grown this term, we now have 256 students which is unexpected for this time of the year. We know we have more new entrant tamariki starting next term which will very likely take the roll to over 260. Following roll growth we have employed another full time Year 1 and 2 teacher. Her name is Kennis Howie. She will begin in Term 3 starting with her new class of approximately 24 students who will be located in the hall. Teachers will take time over the holidays to ensure that the hall/Room 12 will look great and be inviting for our junior tamariki and whānau. We have ordered furniture for our tamariki which will arrive at the end of July. This will be a temporary measure as we seek to engage with the Ministry to provide more classrooms for our growing school.
Thank you again to our whānau o te kura tuatahi o Tauhara for allowing us to teach and care for your tamariki. Please keep safe over the break. See everyone back here safe and sound in term three.
Ngā mihi mahana kia koutou
