Te Mataiaho - Curriculum Refresh

The Ministry of Education is starting its third year of a six-year programme to refresh The New Zealand Curriculum.

The refreshed curriculum will support every learner to experience success in their learning. It will give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and will be inclusive, clear about the learning that matters, and easy to use from year 0 to year 13. Schools, kura, whānau and communities will be better supported to do what they do best: create rich and responsive learning that helps every learner realise their goals and aspirations. Te Mātaiaho gives expression to the right to education set out in the Education and Training Act 2020 that every learner, no matter who they are, where they live, or what school they attend, can attain their highest possible standard in educational achievement.

Key Principles of Te Matiaho

  •  Give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

What this means for Taumata School whānau

At Taumata School, we are excited to share some updates with you regarding the structure of our school this year. These changes have been implemented to align with the Phases of Learning as outlined by the Government. We want to assure you that our personalized approach to each child's education remains a top priority, and these new Phases of Learning will not compromise the quality of education your child receives.

Our dedicated team of educators is committed to providing the highest quality education for your child/ren. We will continue to offer a wide range of learning opportunities, including hands-on activities, group projects, and individualized instruction, to cater to different learning styles and abilities.  We understand that change can sometimes be unsettling, but we believe that these updates will enhance the educational experience for your child.

Throughout the school year, there are various formal opportunities for you to gain insight into your child's progress in relation to the New Zealand Curriculum expectations. These opportunities are designed to keep you informed and involved in your child's education.

In Term two, there are Teacher-Led conferences and reports. These conferences provide a valuable chance for you to meet with your child's teacher and discuss their academic performance, strengths, and areas for improvement. The reports, which will be published at the end of the term offer a comprehensive overview of your child's progress in different subject areas.

Moving on to Term three, there are Learner-Led conferences. This unique approach empowers your child to take an active role in sharing their learning journey with you. They will have the opportunity to showcase their work, reflect on their achievements, and set goals for further growth. These conferences not only foster a sense of ownership and responsibility in your child but also allow you to witness their development firsthand.

Lastly, in Term four, you can expect to receive end-of-year written reports. These reports provide a comprehensive summary of your child's progress throughout the entire year.

It is important to make the most of these formal opportunities to engage with your child's education. By attending conferences and reviewing reports, you can gain valuable insights into their progress, celebrate their achievements, and collaborate with teachers to support their ongoing growth. Remember, your active involvement plays a crucial role in your child's educational journey.

We are excited to embark on the educational journey of 2024 alongside your child and your family. This upcoming year will be filled with learning, growth, and new experiences that will shape your child's future. We are committed to providing a nurturing and engaging environment where your child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

In addition to academic excellence, we also prioritize the holistic development of your child. We understand the importance of fostering social skills, emotional intelligence, and character building. Our school promotes a positive and inclusive environment where students learn to respect and appreciate diversity. We encourage teamwork, collaboration, and empathy, as these are essential skills for success in the 21st century.

We are excited to welcome your child and your family to our school community. We believe that with our combined efforts, we can provide an enriching and transformative educational experience for your child. Together, let's make the 2024 academic year a memorable and successful one!
