Spotlight on Phase 2 - Matarawa and Pūwhenua

This week, we're excited to honour the remarkable learning achievements in Phase 2.

Now that our beginning-of-the-year assessment is completed, our programs are fully operational, and our students are immersed in the daily routines of reading, writing, and math. In Phase 2, our tamariki are delving into our three stages of agency (manaaki, mahitahi, and motuhake). Our students are actively working to enhance their agency in their learning by showcasing their ability to make informed choices and thrive in their independent learning.

Last week, our Year 5 and 6 students engaged in swimming sports, a lively day featuring water safety activities, competitive races, and even student-parent-teacher relays, all topped off with a refreshing free swim session. It was heartening to witness our students embracing the challenges and embodying our Learning Principle of Grit. Meanwhile, the rest of our Phase 2 learners back at school explored various art techniques and activities throughout the day.

Our learners are eagerly awaiting our upcoming Year 5-6 Ōhope camp and the Year 4 overnight stay. These experiences will provide ample opportunities for them to take calculated risks, showcase grit and authentic learning, and strengthen existing relationships with their teachers and peers in a new environment. They'll also have many opportunities to form new connections with others during these enriching activities.

We are excited about all of the awesome opportunities coming up over the next few weeks. We're looking forward to supporting our learners as they strive towards their goals and make the most of these incredible experiences.
