Unveiling the Pathway for Progress...

Understanding the role of assessment in personalising the learning experience.

As we reach the mid point of Term One  I wanted to share with you the essential role that assessment plays in guiding our teaching and supporting your child's learning journey. Assessment serves as both a compass, providing us with a clear school-wide overview of how students are progressing; and as a diagnostic tool - enabling our learning coaches to tailor teaching and learning programs to meet your child's needs.

Throughout the early part of this term, our dedicated learning coaches have been diligently collecting data in key areas such as Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and foundational learning skills for our newest learners. This comprehensive approach to assessment provides valuable insights into your child's strengths, areas for growth, and unique learning styles.

With this data in hand, our teams come together to analyse and discuss the findings. We identify students who require additional supports to accelerate their progress, those who need careful monitoring to ensure they continue to progress as expected, and those who are excelling and may benefit from enrichment or extension opportunities.

Each whānau teacher takes responsibility for their whānau group's data, but collaboration amongst teams ensures that all data is scrutinised, moderated, and utilised effectively to inform planning. This collaborative approach ensures that every student receives the support and resources they need to thrive academically and reach their full potential.

As partners in your child's education, we encourage you to engage with us in this process. If you have questions about how your child is progressing, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's learning coach to discuss further.
