In the heart of Mount Maunganui, amidst the scenic beauty of New Zealand's coastal charm, the 37th Marra Triathlon unfolded with vigour and determination.

Amongst the flurry of athletes, two young stars from Tauranga Boys' College emerged, showcasing their resilience, skill, and unwavering spirit.

Still fresh after Nationals, Sam Ruthe (Y10) and Luca Dohnt (Y11) embarked on the challenging journey of the Marra Triathlon with passion and determination. The triathlon, comprising a 400-metre swim, a 10-kilometre bike ride, and a 2-kilometre run, tested the mettle of competitors from far and wide. For Sam and Luca, it was not just a race; it was an opportunity to push their limits and leave an indelible mark on the competitive landscape.

Sam wasted no time in asserting his dominance, swiftly navigating through the swim leg with remarkable prowess. With each stroke, he propelled himself closer to victory, setting a blistering pace that left his competitors trailing behind. Meanwhile, Luca Dohnt, with sheer determination etched on his face, tackled the swim leg with admirable resolve. Though faced with fierce competition, Luca held his ground, showcasing his tenacity and unwavering focus as he emerged from the water, ready to conquer the next leg of the challenge.

Transitioning from water to land, the athletes mounted their bikes, their determination unwavering despite the physical toll exacted by the swim. As the final leg of the triathlon beckoned, Sam surged ahead with a comfortable lead which left spectators in awe. In a breathtaking display of athleticism, Sam clinched the top spot in the Marra Monsters category, clocking in at an impressive time of 29 minutes and 6 seconds.

Hot on his heels, Luca Dohnt blazed across the finish line, his determination never faltering. With a commendable display of skill and resilience, Luca secured the fifth position in the fiercely contested race, completing the course in a commendable time of 31 minutes and 38 seconds.
