Sprint Canoe Nationals
Asia Pacific Cup & NZ Sprint Canoe Nationals
TBC boys, Charlie Mayston and Kadin Nogaj represented New Zealand in the Asia Pacific games recently held at Lake Karapiro on 24 April.
Competitors from Australia, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, and other nations of the Pacific, went head to head in Sprint Canoe (think Lisa Carrington) to compete for the Asia Pacific Cup.
The event was opened at the Sir Don Rowlands Centre, with a very special Powhiri which included a Karanga, Wero, and Haka. This was the first Karanga and Wero at Lake Karapiro in the last 10 years.
The boys are pictured with their U16 K4 200m bronze medals.
This day of international racing followed three days of New Zealand Nationals held at the same venue where Charlie, Kadin, and fellow TBC mate Dane Wooster competed for Bay of Plenty.
Nationals were competed for over three intense days where our local kids were matched up with the internationals. All up each of our boys were involved in around 25 heats, semis, and finals racing.
Results of particular note are the boys Bronze in the K4 200m final and Charlies bronze in the K1 200m final.
The boys and school can be well proud of these results which have been an accumulation of months of training down at the Wairoa River.
Spectators were also privileged to see Olympic Champion Dame Lisa Carrington go head to head with World Champion Aimee Fisher, for New Zealand’s sole K1 500m world champs position.
