Indoor Cricket Champions

TBC —

Congratulations to Seb Heath and Luke Scrimgeour who have returned from Dubai as U18 World Indoor Cricket Champions!!!

The boys were competing in the Under 18 grade against five other nations including Australia, South Africa, England, UAE and Sri Lanka.

After 10 pool games across the week, New Zealand had finished second on the table underneath rivals Australia, who had won both encounters when the teams played each other in the group stage and were unbeaten going into the final. Seb (vice captain of the team) and Luke played very well during the week and they both earned themselves a spot in the playing 8 for the final. Opening the batting together throughout the tournament they were consistently getting their team off to great starts which was pivotal in beating the stronger teams such as South Africa.

The grand final took place on centre court against Australia with a big crowd in attendance and a livestream running for viewers back home. New Zealand managed to chase down 110, finishing on a total of 117. This was a massive effort chasing under pressure! Luke and Seb set up the chase with 34 in the first partnership which was crucial to the success of the chase.

To get up against the previously undefeated Australian team and become Under-18 World Champions was an amazing effort! Well done boys!!

Year 9 TBC Student - Ged Beatson was also in attendance, competing in the U14 grade for New Zealand. Ged had a fantastic tournament also, as his team registered a 3rd place finish. Well done Ged!
