Suzanne Billington —

Our 'Math-a-thon' is on in Term 3, Weeks 1 & 2, with lots of prizes up for grabs!

1st Prize Overall is a Kids Nippers Kayak and Lifejacket worth over $350, kindly sponsored by Torpedo7.

Other prizes include:

  • A Torpedo7 Hideaway 4 person Tent worth $239.99

  • A 1500 piece Lego set

  • Class pizza parties

  • Tauranga Crossing vouchers

  • There are also spot prizes and much more!

The PTA Math-a-thon fundraiser is used to raise money for projects that directly benefit our students each year. This year some of the money will be going towards much-needed readers.

We are asking every child to raise at least $10.00 in sponsorship. Our goal is to raise in excess of $8,000. The fundraising thermometer will be on the PAC wall so you can see how our fundraising is going during collection week.

How does it work?

  • All students will receive a level-appropriate pack (determined by their teachers) on Tuesday 27th July, where they will then have two weeks to practise the questions and answers given. These questions are intended to be challenging, whilst at the same time at a level where children will see success.

  • Students will gather sponsors during this time - per question answered correctly or a donation. Please note, the number of questions do differ for the various levels e.g.: Stage 1 only has 15 questions whereas Stage 7 has 50 questions.

  • On Tuesday 10th August in Week 3 Term 3, all students will be tested by teachers and parents, with PTA members and helpers also marking that day.

  • Money collection can begin as soon as they have received their score. To be considered for individual prize draws and class prizes, all money must be returned by Friday 20th August, 2021.

Any parents/caregivers/friends of the school that would like to lend a hand with testing and marking the Math-a-thon on the Tuesday 10th August, 8.45am – 1pm, Week 3 Term 3, please contact Kelly Vercoe at PTA@tauriko.school.nz – morning tea provided!

What happened to our last Knowledge-a-thon money?

The school used the funds raised to go towards the construction of the Outdoor Confidence Course (the new playground) project. More than $11,500 was raised, which when combined with grants given enabled this project to go ahead.

Thank-you for your time and help with making our annual ‘A-Thon’ successful.
