Ōtanewainuku nature walk

Lisa Rose —

Room 5 has been learning about our turangawaewae (our place of connection and empowerment).

We have been exploring those places that we feel most connected to here at Tauriko School. These important places include the Tauranga Moana, Mauao and Otanewainuku. Knowing our local legends are important to help us to identify where we are from and build knowledge about the area we live. Today we were lucky enough to go on a class day trip to the Otanewainuku Forest. Check out some photos of our day and what our classmates have said!

I really liked seeing the birds, in particular I saw a native Robin. It came really close to me and it seemed really friendly.

My favourite thing when walking down the track was dodging the tree roots and hearing the Tuis singing in the tree canopy.
- Peyton Jonson

I enjoyed doing the scavenger hunt to find native trees and mushrooms. My group found everything on the list!
