Tall Poppy AIMs Competitors —

A group of Tall Poppies have spent this week competing in the Aims Games across three sporting events.

The AIMS Games (Association of Intermediate and Middle Schools) are an annual sporting event held in Tauranga, New Zealand. This year there are over 10 000 competitors at the event, making it the biggest sporting event for 11-13 year olds in New Zealand. Teams come from all over the country, as well as from overseas.

Opening Ceremony: On Sunday night some of the people competing in AIMs went to the opening ceremony. There were thousands of people there - all AIMs competitors, coaches, teachers, supporters. There were performing dance groups, such as Jgeeks, singers, Paralympians and a Black Fern. It was massive! - Jennifer

Jennifer: On Sunday the 8th of September until Wednesday the 13th of September a group of Tall Poppies including Jennifer MacKinnon, Amy Campbell, Ivy Anderson-Podmore, Arabella Elliott and William Te Whaiti competed in trampolining and gymnastics. They did their very best.

William: I have found competing in AIMs both exciting and terrifying at the same time. I like how it makes you push yourself to the limit of your abilities. It is scary competing against all these different schools. I really like how AIMs brings people together.

Amy: Competing in the AIMs Games helps us to become more confident and gives us a reason to become better at our sport. We have had to practise a lot - most days - to become better gymnasts. Mrs Logan has been very helpful and has been pushing us hard.

What an awesome opportunity for our Tall Poppies. The table tennis players are still competing and we look forward to sharing more in the next newsletter.
