Sports Camp 2019
At the end of Term 3, 37 of our Tall Poppies spent a week at Sports Camp.
The Intermediate Sports Camps have been happening at Totara Springs for over 30 years. In the last week of Term 3 Tauriko School attended with eight other schools from the North Island. It was our school’s tenth year of involvement in this event. The competition was extremely fierce as students competed in over thirty different sports. They pushed themselves outside of their comfort zones and participated in sporting events that ran from sun up until sun down.
Sports they were involved in were: Basketball, Croquet, Netball, Petanque, Rugby, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Touch, Volleyball, Athletics, Cross Country, Archery, Shooting, Frisbee Golf, Hole in one Golf, Kayaking, Swimming , Team Triathlon, Indoor Hockey, Indoor Soccer, Bowls, Darts, Chess, Pentanque, Caged Soccer, Wall Ball, Scramball
We were so proud of how well our students competed across the various codes - they made many semi-finals / finals and were competitive in many events.
One of the students highlights from Sports Camp is the Cheer dance competition on the Thursday night. We spend most of Term 3 learning this routine. We are very proud to announce that we won this competition this year and the judges were so impressed they wanted an encore. Well done team!
We also won the Sportsmanship Trophy, which we feel is one of the most important trophies to win. Our students were out there encouraging each other in some very trying conditions and they also were out there cheering on other schools throughout the week. We are extremely proud of our students as they demonstrated our Tauriko School values to the highest standard.
Another awesome achievement for our Tall Poppy team this year was placing 4th overall on the Points table. This is an outstanding achievement considering we are competing against much bigger Intermediate Schools who run trials to select their sports camp team.
