Tall Poppies Sports Camp

Jo Te Whaiti —

At the end of Term 3, all of our Tall Poppies spent a week at Sports Camp. The camp is held at Totara Springs, near Matamata. Schools play over twenty different sports over the week. It is full-on active and full-on fun!

Sports Camp is a great opportunity for our athletes to experience competition against students from other schools, both big and small. This year we competed against schools from around the North Island, including Wesley, Glenfield and Northcote Intermediates, to name a  few. We were so proud of how well our students competed across the various codes - they made more semi-finals than ever and were competitive in many events.

Some of the impressive results:

Human Foosball 1st

Indoor bowls 2nd

Cross Country (team) 3rd

Kayaking 3rd

Shooting 3rd

Softball 4th

Boys hockey 4th

Girls hockey 4th

Indoor Hockey girls 4th

Boys Table Tennis 4th

Archery 4th

Boy volleyball 4th

Caged soccer 4th

Petanque 4th

Croquet 4th

Swimming 4th overall (Excellent results across events with most finals including a Tauriko swimmer)

Special thanks to:

* Nika Rikiriki for his wonderful coaching and boot camps;

* the many parents who supported with transport and supervision, as our athletes played against other schools in the lead up to camp;

* Tim Stanley, Rachel Seamer, Esther Martin, Luke Rutherford and Kelly Bain who coached in various sports; and

* Natalie Van Dijk who expertly choreographed and coached our cheer performance.

We are so thankful to all of you for your help!

Finally, to our wonderful Tall Poppies - congratulations! You made us so proud!
