Book Week / Book Fair Update

Lynda Palfrey —

The countdown is on ... next week is Book Week and the Scholastic Book Fair arrives on Tuesday 19th September.

The theme this year is Happy Campers and we have an exciting week of daily events planned to encourage the love of books and reading throughout the school. There are various events planned during the week that you need to mark on your calendars.

The Scholastic Book Fair arrives at school on Tuesday and books will be on sale from Tuesday afternoon until the following Monday afternoon. We are looking for parents to help out at the Book Fair. If you are able to give us an hour, morning or afternoon, we'd really appreciate it. Please email Lynda at lpalfrey@tauriko.school.nz or see her in Room 10. Thanks!

The Book Fair is open for business 8:00 -8:45 each morning and again each afternoon from 2-3pm. The Book Fair will also be open to coincide with the special events such as the character parade, grandies reading time and the Milo and marshmallow evening.

Our generous PTA have once again offered to pay 50% of any books bought through the Book Fair and donated to the school library. We are grateful for the PTA and the families who donate books to the school, and this support is acknowledged in the front of each donated book. This is a wonderful way to build up our library stocks and support our readers.

On Thursday 21st September at 9am we will be holding our Book Character Parade. We encourage all students to come along dressed as a book character or a happy camper. Certificates are awarded to the best dressed in each class but the emphasis is on taking part, being creative and having fun.

Thursday is also "Grandies Reading Time" when we warmly welcome grandparents to come along to read with our children. Reading time is between 10:40 and 12:15. Tea and coffee will be available  for the adults who have stayed on from the parade to read in classes.

Thursday lunchtime is the Giant Picnic on the back field - bring a rug, a picnic lunch, your teddy and camp out on the back field. Parents, grandies and families are all welcome to attend.

Thursday's fun concludes with our ever-popular Milo and marshmallow event. Our wonderful PTA provide milo and marshmallows for the children while they enjoy stories read by the Tauranga City librarians. Feel free to come dressed in your PJs. This event is from 5:30 to 6:30 and during this time the Book Fair will also be open for business.

Look out for further Book Week excitement, get ready, get involved and join in our band of happy campers.
