Wee Sprouts Poppy Planting

Lisa Rose —

In the last week of term, the Wee Sprouts travelled down to The Crossing to plant poppies.

If you have been down to The Crossing in recent weeks you will have been amazed by the Anzac poppy display on the grass areas. We decorated the area nearest to The Crossing entrance. It was part of our learning about Anzac Day and the children were able to explain about the significance of the poppies, and why we commemorate Anzac Day. Marley carried with her a framed photo of her great-grandad from the war, and as we were waiting to start the poppy planting, Marley’s grandfather flew past in his vintage bi-plane. It certainly added to the special event. We were proud to partner with The Crossing to bring the Anzac spirit alive and make the learning real for the Wee Sprouts.

Here’s what we had to say …

“ They remind us about people who went to war and died at the war.” – Florence

“It was fabulous, and I liked planting the poppies.” – Ray

“There were so many poppies everywhere. “ – Greyson

“The flowers were beautiful.” – Allan

“We put the red and black flowers in the ground.” – Mateo

“I like planting the poppies.” – Theo

“I liked planting the poppies.” - Mackenzie
