Charlotte Thom - Year 5 Girls 800m

Our 4 super stars swapped their red Tauriko shirts for the 'West Cluster Green' as they competed in the annual WBOP event.

A special mention and congratulations to:

  • Austin Campion who ran 4th place in the year 6 boys 800m race.
  • Charlotte Thom who ran 5th palce in the year 5 girls 800m race.

Ka rawe team Tauriko!

Student voice:

Kaydin: My family are very proud of me. My papa's mum was a really good shot put person so it is pretty cool that I am too. I had 3 really good throws and I think my technique was good.

Riley: I was nervous at the start of the 800m - a girl was trying to push me out the way because she was really competitive. It is a hard race because everyone wants to merge into lane 1. I liked the long jump event. One of the other competitors jumped 4meters!

Charlotte: This was my first WBOP Athletics event. There were some really competitive people. The girl that came 2nd actually got disqualified! I was proud of my race and I came 5th. Mum was happy for me too.

Austin: I qualified for the 800 m race. It was a very hot day in the sunshine. I was pretty nervous at the start. After a little bit I felt boxed up in the race and couldn't get out. I managed to break free and went for it. I was happy with my placing.
