Principal's Message

Suzanne Billington —

Kia Ora Koutou Katoa, Talofa Lava, Malo e Lelei, Ni Hao, Anyoung Haseyo, Konichi Wa, Gruetzi, Guten Tag, Bonjour, Ola, Hello.

A warm welcome back to Term 2! Students arrived back smiling rested and settled into learning beautifully this week. There is a lovely hum around the school in the playground and when I walk through classrooms.

Welcome back to Mrs Liz Kriel, who has returned from maternity leave to teach Room 7 and to Andrea Lockett who has returned from leave in Term 1. We are pleased to have both these teachers back with us and we wish them all the best as they settle back into life at Tauriko School.

A warm welcome back to Mr Noel Hewlett, our caretaker, who returns to school this term part-time after sick leave. We are also grateful to Mr Aat van Dijk who will continue to work alongside Noel for the foreseeable future.  Our school is looking wonderful. Thank you to Aat and Keith Billington for their work over the holiday period.

Initially this term students will be training for the Cross Country as part of their PE & Health learning and next week Production practices will start for our Robin In Da Hood show to be performed at the Bethlehem College Theatre Tuesday 4th - Thursday 6th June. Beyond their learning in the performing arts, incorporating music, drama and dance, student learning in classrooms will be linked to this eg out Tall poppies are learning about script writing.

Our staff are all attending a Union Meeting next Wednesday afternoon the 5th May and we have asked that parents pick children up from 12:15pm when lunchtime starts. All buses will run at this time and the School's Out after school care programme will run in the Tauriko Settler's Hall from lunchtime. Contact Melanie Watts on 021 244 2116 or email at tauriko@schoolsout.co.nz if you wish to utilise this service. Any concerns or difficulties please feel free to contact me. I will remain back at school to cover the few students who may not be picked up.

I wish all our Tall Poppy students who are taking part in the Mini-Marathon in Rotorua tomorrow the best of luck. Thank you to those parents who are supporting us with transport. This event is a fun way for school students to be part of the Fletcher Marathon weekend in Rotorua.
