Athletics Success for Georgia

Jo Te Whaiti & Misi Tasi —

In Term 4, Georgia attended the BOP Athletics Champs along with four other Tall Poppy athletes. She had a successful day!

Following success at a recent cluster event, five Tall Poppies headed off to the BOP Athletics Champs at the Tauranga Domain.

Georgia represented the cluster in 100m, 200m and 300m sprints as well as Discus. She came first in the 200m and 300m races and second in the 100m. We are super proud to announce that Georgia came second overall! This is a huge accomplishment, especially given Georgia was only one point away from the first place getter. Georgia was also selected to run in the champion relay.

Other Tall Poppies who competed in the event were:

Noah Lord - High Jump & 100m sprints

Misi Tasi - Shot Put, High Jump & 100m sprints

Emily Verstappen - High Jump

Laura James - 200m sprints

Congratulations to all of you for your success. Thank you to Nichola James for supervising on the day. We were really pleased to hear that these children were wonderful to be with - great sportsmanship and wonderful behaviour. Well done, Tall Poppies!

Misi Tasi's writing about the Tall Poppies' Athletics:

Tall poppies had athletics in Term 4. Tall poppies Athletics is when Year 7 & 8s go to the domain and do different events. At the Tall Poppies Athletics there's different schools that you have to compete against. If you come 1st 2nd or 3rd you go to Bay of Plenty Athletics. There's events like high jump, long jump, discus and a lot of other sports.

At Tall Poppies Athletics, some kids are really competitive. You can make new friends there too. The domain at the athletics is pretty big. When you get to the domain there’s these seats you can sit onin the grnadstand. When some kids arrive at the domain they do laps around the fields, stretch or get warmed up.
