Whole School Swimming Sports

Natalie van Dijk —

What an amazing swimming sports we had on Monday the 4th of March.

It was so great to see all the children participating and celebrating the great success they have had in swimming this year. Thank you to the wonderful parents who offered to help during the day we couldn't run these events with out you.

Please find the competitive swimming results below. Congratulations to all the students who placed in the top three for each race. Certificates for the top 3 place getters will be awarded at our next assemblies this term.

Below is the break down of house points. But the winner for the Swimming Sports House Shield for 2019 is...

  • Kahikatea with 312 points

There I was. Dripping wet. Waiting. Waiting for the next race to start. “Year six girls kicking on back with board”, Ms Billington declared from below the bleachers. I splashed into the water beside Ava and spun around onto my back just in time. The whistle blew, and we were off! I kicked as hard as my legs could handle and made it in second place. As I trudged back to my seat I longed to be back in that water, but for now I had to wait.

Will I Win?
As I looked across the lanes I was thinking to myself. I am up against my best mate on the football pitch, but he is my enemy in the pool! Toooot! The whistle sounded through the complex and echoed back into my eardrum “On your marks... get set… go!”
I launched through the air like Apollo 13 or a 40 gram salmon migrating to Alaska.

On Monday Tauriko School went to the Greerton Pools for Swimming Sports on the bus. When we got there, we sat down on the grass under the Tauriko School tent then we had lunch. Then we went inside and did our house chants and watched some of the seniors swimming. After watching some of the seniors swimming we went outside and after a minute or 2 Room 4, 3 and Wee Sprouts got changed for swimming. I competed in fetch the toy and kicking on front with flutter board and dolphin dives and streamline.

After all of the swimming sports we went back to school on the bus. I won 1 race and tied with Taylor. I was happy!

On Monday Room 4 went to the Swimming Sports. I did dolphin dives and I had fun. I did freestyle and had fun. I did kicking on front. I did kicking on my back.
