Spotlight on Sport

Jolene Nelson —

Summer sport is winding down, and the planning for numerous holiday programmes and winter sport is ramping up.

Winter School Sport Terms 2 and 3

Information regarding the winter sport registrations for hockey, netball and basketball are currently being finalised and the plan is all those registered will have been notified of their teams by the end of this term.

There have been 105 registrations across the three codes which is great to see!

80% of registrations have been for hockey and so it's looking like we are able to enter seven teams this year. Although some of the numbers have been on the lower side for some of the netball and basketball registrations is great in some cases that through working with some of our neighbouring schools, we are able to pull together and enter combined teams so students are still able to play.

A big thank you to all those who have raised their hands to help out with coaching, umpiring and managing. Most of our teams now have coaches, managers and umpires.  This is a great start to the term and your support is very much appreciated.

Congratulations

Congratulations to the following students for receiving end of season awards for their efforts within their team sports.

  • Zoe Davy - Player of the season Flippaball

  • Coco Campion - Fair play award for the season for Flippaball

  • Jazmine William - Most Improved Player for Flippaball

  • Josh Hall and Jai Reedy - Player of the season Rippa Rugby

  • Kian Wilford and Hannah Boud - Most Improved Player for the season for Rippa Rugby

  • Levi Dickinson - Fair play award for the season for Rippa Rugby

The purpose of this programme is to provide a meaningful competition for junior and intermediate girls (7-13 yrs) to participate and compete in tackle rugby with other girls.

The first 2 weeks will be focused on skill development through fun drills and challenges, which will be run by BOP Coaches and Support Staff. This is to build confidence among young girls and ensure safety amongst players. The remaining 4 weeks will be game focused.
