Rotorua Mini-Marathon

Megan Holden & Noah Lord —

Some of our Tall Poppies headed to Rotorua to get a taste of marathon running.

On Friday the 4th May, Vilah, Zane, Noah, Dylan, Charlotte M, Taylor, Jamie, Laura, Georgia, Mikaylee, Zak and Kayla went to Rotorua to run their final 2km of a total 42km. The students got to run the last 2km of the Rotorua Marathon and experience what it feels like to cross the line for the elite athletes that compete in this event.

During the month of April, these keen runners were training hard to reach a total distance of 40km, ready for the Rotorua event. Needless to say, this training will be very helpful when it comes to competing in the Cross Country events coming up. They had a great day and represented the school well.

Special thanks to Deidre, Sally and Nichola who transported and supervised our lovely Tall Poppies - we really appreciate your help.

Check out the article & interview in the Rotorua Daily Post here. You may just see some of our runners!

Noah Lord: The mini marathon was an event in Rotorua, taken on by a group of Tall Poppies who liked running,. Before the event, the group had six weeks to run forty kilometres before going to the event.

It was called a mini marathon because instead of doing the whole forty two kilometres like an actual marathon, we only did the last two kilometres. Once we had done it there was a prize giving. Only one person in our group got a prize and that was Zane.

While we were doing the forty kilometres we could either run or walk, everyone in our group managed to do the forty kilometres and then we all completed the other two kilometres.
