Tall Poppy News

Megan Holden —

Have a read to see what the Tall Poppies have been up to lately.

GRIP

On Friday the 5th of April, the year 8s went to Rotorua to learn about leadership. We learnt that leadership is about people not power. Another thing we learnt is the 4 main values of leadership which spells out the word CORE. Here are what each of the letters stand for: Confidence, Others focused, Reliability, Empathy. Here is some of the feedback from the year 8s:

Jamie: “It was really exciting and I learnt that I need to work on reliability and I learnt a lot of fun facts about reliability.”
Ben: “It was great because I learnt a lot about leadership and because they had fun games in between each session.”

Tall Poppies mindfulness!

In the Tall Poppies the Year 7s have been doing mindfulness, they have all learnt how to control their actions and breathing. This experience all started in Week two on Wednesday. Altogether there has been nine sessions, with the last session on Wednesday this week (10/4/19).

All the Year 7s have learnt to be mindful of what they’re eating and of their breathing. Now that they know to be mindful of what they are eating they are noticing the little details and the taste of the food.

In Week 10 the Year 8s had a mindfulness session with the Year 7s, where the Year 7s brought some food to share and they all had a yummy feast.
