Introducing Food Technology...

Joshua Crisp (Year 8) and Lacey Graham (Year 8) —

For five Fridays of each term, the Tall Poppies split into four Tech groups and go to one of our four different Technology learning areas. The past three Fridays we have been doing Food Tech in our brand new Food Tech room with Mr Corn, our specialist teacher. We cook from 8:30-11:30am each Friday to learn how to cook healthy and safely.

Tech Group 1 this term has been learning how to clean and sterilize surfaces, how to make healthy and nutritious meals and how to julienne cut - to safely cut food without cutting our fingers.

So far we have made smoothies with beetroot, carrot or kale. We have also made banana pancakes, fruit salads and chicken noodle salads and last Friday we had an Eggstravaganza! We made lots of different meals with eggs, such as boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, poached eggs and toast. Later in the session, we then made a vegetable frittata - with eggs!

Here's what some of Group 1 had to say about Food Tech:

Ava Dobbin: I enjoy making and eating the food and learning how to cut julienne.
Lincoln Couper: Food Tech is fun and you get to learn new recipes and taste new food.
Eden Baker: I find Food Tech fun because I get to learn new recipes that are healthy and yum.
Lucas Coster: I have learned to use a knife and an oven, and have enjoyed making all types of food.

We are all looking forward to future Tech days and getting to learn new healthy recipes that we can take home to share with our friends and families.
