Principal's Leadership Camp

Jo Te Whaiti —

Eight of our Tall Poppies went to Leadership Camp at the start of Term 1 with other student leaders from throughout our Cluster.

Our Head Students, Rico and Charlotte headed off to the Principals' Leadership Camp with Year 8 students Lachlan & Arabella and Year 7 students Georgia, Taylor, Charlotte and Zak. These students were selected for the leadership qualities they display at Tauriko School.

Each year six students are selected to attend the camp with the Head Students. It takes place over two days at Aongatete Lodge.

Students look at the attributes/qualities of effective leaders and what effective leadership looks like, feels like, sounds like. They take part in personal challenges such as rock climbing and team challenges too. They reflect on learning and set leadership goals.

At camp our young leaders started to put together a short clip about the camp. They are currently working on getting this completed and we look forward to sharing it with you soon.

Some highlights...

Charlotte M: My favourite part was the rock climbing because it was challenging.

Georgia: A highlight for me was the water challenge on the confidence course. It was fun - we had to try not to lose the water.

Rico: I really liked meeting the students from the other schools. I'm looking forward to seeing them at other events throughout the year.

Taylor: Being with other students was great because it is fun making friends with people that like the same things.

Charlotte R: The pancake challenge was fun. We had a map and we had to go and find all of the ingredients. I loved the rock climbing!

Lachlan: We got to see what different types of leaders look like. We got to share ideas about how to lead in our schools.

Zak: Socialising with other kids and learning more about them and their different roles and opportunities was useful. We got some great ideas.

Arabella: It was great meeting kids from other schools and learning different ways to show leadership. We got some ideas from them and they got some ideas from us.
