Top Schools Competition

Natalie van Dijk —

Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 Tauriko Team who competed in the Bay Of Plenty Top Schools competition on Thursday 20th March at Gate Pa School.

There were over 20 schools competing in a variety of events including ‘Big Foot’ where teams walk as one with huge wooden planks to ‘Leaky Bucket’ involving sliding down a steep hill on a wet tarp with bucket in check. Tauriko School produced fantastic results and demonstrated outstanding teamwork and leadership skills throughout the event.

The team consisted of: Brooke Barnett, Tahlia Roscoe, Caleb Griffin, Drew Bryan, Regan Cumming, Sophie Neustroski, Tyler Nelson, Caleb Litolff, Sam Groves, Ella Lloyd, Libby Morell and Megan Gardiner

We would like to thank Paul Griffin for Managing our team.

Leaky Bucket

I was so determined. I sprinted towards the slide. I dove and… nothing happened. The grip was too much for my shorts. I stood up not knowing what to do and slipped over. Again, I gripped onto the slide. I finally got off the slide and trudged up the hill, and was rewarded with a bucket of water being poured down my pants. But that was the practise round. Now for the real thing. I filled up the leaky bucket and thought, “Pants don’t fail me now!” This time I was much more successful. Or so I thought. I started drifting sideways, and by the time I was at the bottom I had turned 90 degrees. I hit the grass hard and fell over. Most of the water from my bucket fell out and onto the grass. I sprinted back up the hill, tagging my next team member. It was so much fun!😃

I was up first. I sprinted to the slide. As I zoomed down the slide. At the bottom, I fell face-first into the grass. Luckily the Bucket stayed upright. I was in my boxers and they were soaked. Top Schools was so much fun!!!!!!!
