Term 4 Week 5
NZEI Union Meeting: Change to finishing time
On Wednesday 16 November, teachers will be attending a NZEI Union meeting. This meeting is being held so teachers can discuss and vote on collective agreement claims for its teacher members in primary, area, intermediate, kura kuapapa, and special schools.
Teachers will be at school for the morning until 12:15pm so that instructional teaching can continue. Students will be picked up from school at 12:15pm and all school buses will run from this time as follows:
- Lakes & Cambridge Road buses depart school at 12.15pm
- Omanawa/Belk Rd bus depart at 12.30pm
Teachers will then leave school to attend their meeting at Tauranga Primary School.
Schools Out will provide care from 12:15pm and can be contacted at tauriko@schoolsout.co.nz to organise this.
If you have any problems around supervision of your child/ren and need support please let the office know HERE.
If you have any queries at all, as always please don’t hesitate to contact Suzanne Billington.
Getting to School on Time
We have noticed that lately there are more and more students arriving late to school. It is important that students arrive at school with enough time to get themselves organised before the bell. It can be quite unsettling for a child who has to rush in late as they miss the morning routines. Please endeavour to get students to school between 7.45 and 8.15am to ensure a smooth start to the day for them. Nga mihi nui - many thanks!
Prizegiving Trophies
All trophies given out at the prizegiving at the end of 2021 are now due in. Please send trophies to the office by Friday 18th of November. This will allow enough to time to get them engraved for the next recipients.
Do you know Lily Daniels?
A member of our school community found an item belonging to Lily Daniels. If you know Lily, please send her to the school office to collect this. Thanks!
School Council Fundraising - Cookie Time Christmas Cookies
A reminder to get those Cookie Time Christmas Cookie order forms and payments into school (the Cookie Time box in Mrs Rose's office) by Friday the 18th of November. This is a fundraiser for the School Council, with $2.50 from each bucket sold going directly to the Council. Information and order forms were sent home with each child on Monday. Please see Mrs Rose if you need an additional order form.
Developing Mathematical Inquiry Communities: Teacher practices and student outcomes in mathematics .
STUDENT/PARENT/CAREGIVER INFORMATION
A team from Massey University (Prof Bobbie Hunter, Associate Professor Jodie Hunter, Dr John Moala) are currently doing research focusing on student outcomes in mathematics. This work is being funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Education and the Rutherford Foundation, Royal Society of New Zealand. We are interested in learning about how students’ mathematical understanding, engagement, and well-being may change over time and how these are related to classroom teaching. The results of this study may be helpful to improve teaching and learning of mathematics in New Zealand.
We will be collecting information about student data, achievement and engagement in mathematics. Your child’s involvement will be no more than that which occurs in normal daily mathematics lessons and when assessing children’s learning in mathematics.
As part of the project, we will collect your child’s mathematics assessment results from their schools and responses to two online surveys (twice per year) focused on mathematics engagement and mathematics and well-being. All data collected for the purpose of the study will be stored in a secure location, with no public access and used only for this research.
In order to maintain anonymity the school name will be assigned a pseudonym in any publications arising from this research. At the end of the year, a summary of the study will be provided to the school and you can request a copy by emailing Jodie Hunter (j.hunter1@massey.ac.nz).
Please note that you and your child have the following rights in response to the request to participate in this study:
• decline to participate;
• withdraw from the study until the data analysis phase;
• ask any questions about the study at any time during participation;
• provide information on the understanding that your child’s name will not be used;
• be given access to a summary of the project findings when it is concluded.
Should you wish to opt your child out of this research project, please complete the attached opt-out form and return it to school by Wednesday 16th of November. Please pop it in an envelope and address it to 'Jo Te Whaiti'. Alternatively you can email it to jtewhaiti@tauriko.school.nz - Thanks.
If you have further questions about this project you are welcome to discuss them with Jodie personally:
