Tall Poppies 2020 Swimming Intensive

Cheyenne Taylor (Year 8) —

This year, once again, the Tall Poppies have been going to swimming intensive classes. Although, this year the swimming intensive classes have been held at Memorial Pool. We go on either a Wednesday or Thursday for one hour for five sessions altogether. We leave at 12.25pm and get back around 2.00pm-ish.

At the sessions we work on our water safety skills and different types of swimming strokes. We practise freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and in one session we practised our diving.

At the end of our first session the class was put into mixed groups and we did a relay using all the Tall Poppies. Some people dove into the water and others felt more comfortable starting already in it. We were all allowed to do whatever stroke we felt comfortable doing for the relay.

Here is what a couple of students in our class think of our Swimming Intensive Lessons:

“It’s really fun at the start but near the end of the session it can get quite tiring.” - Ember O’Donoghue, Year 7
“I like doing it. It's nice and refreshing. By the time we get there it gets quite hot.” - Analise Roscoe, Year 8

We only have a couple more sessions of swimming to go, but I’m sure that the Tall Poppies have enjoyed going to the classes. We have learnt a lot of things and been able to practice.

Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better.
