Te Wiki o te reo Maori 2019

Jo Te Whaiti —

From Monday 9th to Friday 13th of September we celebrated Maori Language Week.

Māori Language week has been celebrated every year since 1975.

Te Wiki o te reo Maori is an opportunity to celebrate, promote and encourage the use of te reo Maori. Every minute of every hour of every day is a Māori language minute – we can choose to use te reo – every time we do, even just a ‘Kia ora!’ contributes to revitalisation.

Over the course of te wiki, we had activities taking place in classes and in break times. Putiputi were woven, waiata sung, pakiwaitara (traditional stories) were read and Maori arts and crafts completed. Special thanks to those who helped to run these events - tino pai to mahi!

We hope you enjoy our photos.
