A busy Term 3 has started as we welcome back our students and their whanau for what will be an amazing Term of learning. A very warm Tauriko Welcome to all those students and their whanau who join us this Term for the very first time.

The Term started for staff with a Wananga at Hangarau Marae, situated at Bethlehem. This beautiful marae sits within the hapu that our school belongs to. Tauriko School and Kaimai School staff and Board members spent the day beginning the building of an on-going relationship that will support our students to feel strongly at home in this place.

Ko Mauao te maunga

Ko Wairoa te awa

Te Ngāti Ranginui te iwi

Te Ngāti Hangarau te hapū

Ko Takitimu te waka

Ko matau Te Kura o Tauriko

Inside te tipuna whare o Hangarau we learnt about tikanga (customs) and kawa (knowledge) of our rohe (area). This will support us to carry out learning in an appropriate manner in relation to Ngāti Ranginui iwi and Ngāti Hangaru hapu tikanga and kawa.

A huge thank you go to our kaumatua Matua Tawharangi and Whaea Kororia Nuku for their guidance, support, manākitanga me whānaungatanga both on the marae and in an on going way prior to this and moving forward. We are fortunate to have their support. There will be opportunities for us to offer our support moving forward also, something that is just as important for our  tamariki to learn. This reciprocity is an important principle in not only learning but in fostering warm, supportive relationships that enable true partnership -  something Tauriko School is striving to encapsulate across all aspects of our learning and work.

I also want to thank Richard Nelson (BOT member) and Tanerau and Alana Latimer (parents), Shirralee Hohaia (Kahui Ako Across School Teacher) and Te Waanihi Stone and Mareesa Day (Ngāti Ranginui iwi) for their support in the powhiri and on the day.

Arohanui ki a Lisa Rose ratou ko tona whanau, our love goes out to Lisa and her family, at this sad time at the loss of Lisa's mother. Margaret Murray was part of our whanau as Hannah and Charlotte's loving grandmother also. Lisa will be on leave for a while. Please email me over this time should you need anything.

Learning Partnership Meetings

It was wonderful to see so many whanau members in school on Thursday to take part in Learning Partnership Meetings celebrating our students' many successes over the last six months. You will all understand why we are exceedingly proud of the growth of our students both as learners and young people.

We look forward to another exciting term where students make further progress, meeting challenges along the way and being brave, resilient learners.

Ngā mihi mahana,

Suzanne
