Getting Arty in the Tall Poppies

Aya Birt & Jorja Clark (Tall Poppies) —

Tuesday the nineteenth of March was the second day of the Tall Poppies Art and Leadership camp. On this day we were doing activity rotations in the camp grounds. There was a bush walk and some orienteering but for many the favourite was the art.

This year we created large pieces of abstract art. We had the wonderful local Artist Emma Prill (https://emmaprill.co.nz/) come in to help us with these projects. We used large sheets of cardboard as our backgrounds and with smaller panels we cut out shapes - flowers, leaves and a lot of other stunning abstract pieces.

We then painted these shapes being mindful of where they would fit in, and when they were dry we layered them onto a background using colours and shapes to give a really stunning effect! We made many different scenes. We had a native bush and even a pond! These Ideas were developed from the environment around us.

This was a combined effort from the Tall Poppies and everyone made their own unique contribution to these amazing pieces of art that will be displayed in the office upon completion. Keep an eye out!
