Kids Lit Quiz

Jo Te Whaiti & Aya Birt —

In term 4, two teams of Year 6 & 7 students had a taste of the Kids Lit Quiz.

Late in Ocotober, two teams of students represented Tauriko School in the Kids Literature Quiz. Teams were made up of four students:

Year 6: Analise Roscoe, Ella Wilford,  Jorja Clark, Zeerak Riaz

Year 7: Noah Lord, Aya Birt, William Simmonds, Rylee van Dijk

This fun literature quiz competition for local Year 5-8 students was a good introduction for students to the International Kids’ Lit Quiz competition in which we plan to enter Tall Poppy teams next year.

There were 50 questions in 5 categories.  We got lots of tips and ideas as to how we can prepare for the main competition in 2019. This mainly involved reading lots of books, including those written by local authors, as well as classics.

We were pretty pleased with our results with one of our teams finishing 11th. Now it's time to knuckle down and get reading!

If any of our future Tall Poppies are interested in being in a Lit Quiz team next year, they should keep an eye out for information in the new year. In the meantime, they need to read a wide range of texts. If we get a lot of interest we may need to have trials closer to the time.

Aya Birt:

As some may know on the 30th of October, four of the Tall Poppies and four year sixes were selected to participate in a Literary quiz.

The eight students participating were Aya Birt, Rylee van Dijk, Noah Lord, William Simmonds, Ella Wilford, Jorja Clark, Analise Rosco and Zeerak Riaz.

We had to answer a series of questions the categories were Transport, New Zealand, General Knowledge, Witches, Colour and Logos.

This was truly a fun experience and we enjoyed it thoroughly.
