Weetbix kids tryathlon

The dates have been set for the 2019/20 Weetbix kids tryathlon series and the Mount Maunganui event is the first up and is being held on Sunday 24th November.

If your children (ages 7+) are keen to enter as a team or an individual (and be linked with the Tauriko School group) , follow the linkhttps://tryathlon.co.nz/locations/mount-maunganui/ to register.

A couple of tips when it comes to registering include:

  • It is easier if you get the registration packs sent to your home address. They arrive a few weeks before the event and include a tshirt, swim cap, registration numbers to place on bikes, helmets etc. It is much easier to have this in advance than to pick up from the event if you can.
  • If you don't follow the link, make sure you state you are connected to Tauriko School as this way school organisers are notified of your registration so can keep in touch with you closer to the time. Also the more entries we have as a school the greater chance we have of winning school prizes.

This is a well organised event that is great for both those new to triathlons and for those that have done this type of event before.

Recently a splash and dash event has been added for the 6 years olds too - so if the younger ones are keen this is a great first event for them to be involved in.

Greerton  Junior Cricket Club

Greerton are starting up a junior cricket club this term. There are 3 divisions that play on a Saturday morning:

  • Division 1 is played with a hard ball for year 5 and 6 kids who have played before. Otherwise they are best playing division 2 gold, with a soft ball.
  • Division 2 is generally for year 3 and 4. Depending on ability, gold for the experienced players, blue for less experienced.
  • Division 3 is for year 1 and 2 children. More experienced ones may be able to play division 2 blue.

If Saturdays are too difficult, there is Super Star Cricket, which involves skills and minor cricket games on Friday nights from 5 to 6pm for year 1 to 3 students who are new to the game.

This Friday 18th October from 5pm to around 6pm  at Pemberton Park, the Greerton Cricket Club will host a sausage sizzle, have fun games for the kids, meet some of the Greerton Committee and Senior players and accept registrations for the coming season.  This muster is for all division 1, 2 and 3 players, and also for Super Star Cricket.
