Kobe Taylor, Caleb Griffin, Ella Lloyd, Sam Groves, Georgia Barnett and Taylor Groves represented Tauriko School at the WEEBET Aspiring Athletes programme held at Blake Park on Thursday 4th and Friday 5th of April. These students were selected for their outstanding ability in their chosen sport and spent the day learning new skills.

We had made it, the exciting fun and challenging day had arrived. We all sat down in the meeting room and a famous rugby player, Keke, talked about the dedication, perseverance and determination it took to become a famous rugby player.

Then we all set off to get into our groups for the day. Sam, Kobe and Caleb went over to Soccer, while I headed towards Athletics.

We helped to set up the gear to get ready for the hurdles. Firstly, we leapt over the smaller hurdles than over the higher hurdles. Finally, our coach increased the distance, encouraging us to jump further.

The day helped us improve our skills in our designated sport, it was so much fun. I have learnt lots of new techniques that I can’t wait to use in our School Athletics Day.
