Winter Sport Wrap Up...
Hockey, Netball and Basketball wrap up their 2021 Season.
TAURIKO TIGERS - YEAR 7 & 8 HOCKEY
Our Tauriko Tigers, Tahlia Zalia Hayden Jack Hannah Lucas Lincoln Laura and Myles have had another great season with some great games producing some great results. Everyone has continued working hard on both their skills and their game play which has resulted in successes on both our team and personal levels. At the end of our pool round we were placed 3rd in our division and we are now hoping to get to play our finals game for 3rd and 4th place. Really proud of you guys.
TAURIKO TURBO'S - YEAR 3 & 4 NETBALL The Tauriko Turbos had a super fun season of netball. It was great to team up with Pyes Pa to make a team and make lots of new friends. Special thanks to Rachel McRae for her time and effort in coaching the team after school as well as before the game on Saturdays & thanks also to Tracey Turner-Crossan for your supportive umpiring.
Netball is the best sport. It’s been fun playing with the Pyes Pa girls and I’ve enjoyed the season. Can’t wait for next year. (Hollie Gray, Rm 6)
TAURIKO TORNADOES - YEAR 6 NETBALL Tauriko tornadoes started the season with a team of year fives, year sixes and players from Kaimai school. It took a few weeks for our girls to find their groove within the team, but with our coaches Tania and Sarah they managed to find the players strengths and really help them develop as individual players and team players. It has been an amazing season for the girls watching them go from strength to strength, and as of this week we are playing in the finals to hopefully come home with 1st place in our division. The most recent tournament (just before covid lockdown)saw the team show real determination and grit playing 5 games, even in the last game they really pushed themselves to take away 1st place for year 6.
I just want to extend a huge thank you to the parents who have come to support every game and every tournament they have played. Also to the coaches Tania and Sarah, a huge thanks for pushing the team and really focusing on those skills needed to take them further in their netball career. To the girls in the team, you should all be so proud of how far you have come, each and every single one of you has improved individually and you have also grown as a team and it has been a joy to watch each week. Fingers crossed for next week's finals game.
TAURIKO TOMCATS - Year 7 & 8 BASKETBALL
Tauriko Tomcats was a Year 7 & 8 Combined schools team for 2021, including 4 Students from Tauriko, 8 from Kaimai, Oropi and Taumata. The majority of these players were beginners and were keen to learn skills and develop as a team. Thanks to Hamish Tills from Kaimai school who was able to coach the team throughout the season. The level of perseverance and team work was the highlight of the season. Tauriko Members included Libby Morell, Devan Yuill, Dylan Bernhard and Harvey Church.
A BIG THANK YOU To all the parents, sisters, brothers, grandparents who put their hand up to coach, manage or umpire/ref one of our sports teams in Term 2 and 3, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for giving up your time and making a commitment to a Tauriko School sports. We realise what a big commitment it is, and we really value the contribution you have made, especially with a lockdown thrown in the mix. Without you our teams just wouldn't exist so thank you to the following people.
