School bus changes from 2025
We have been notified that from the end of the 2024 school year, the Ministry school bus service D090104 (Takapu Valley to Tawa schools) will no longer be operating.
A recent review by the Ministry found that there were only six eligible students using this bus service. For a Ministry school bus service to be viable there must be at least eight eligible students.
Eligibility criteria for a Ministry school bus
For students to be eligible for a Ministry school bus, all three of the following criteria must be met:
The student is attending the closest school they can enrol at.
The student must live more than a certain distance from school:
Years 1-8: at least 3.2km
Year 9-13: at least 4.8km
There must be no public transport available.
Options for transport next year
You may like to explore using public transport to transport your child to school next year.
There is a Metlink service available that serves schools in Tawa from Takapu Valley – Route 402. This service picks up passengers from Bus Stop 3905 (corner Takapu Road and Woodburn Drive) at 8.07am and delivers them back at this stop at 3.56pm. For more information on this service, including fares, please visit the Metlink website.
Some students who live on Takapu Road may be eligible for a Conveyance Allowance. A conveyance allowance is a contribution to the cost of transporting students to school or to their nearest school bus route. You can apply for a conveyance allowance on the Ministry of Education website.
