Level 2 Geography Field Trip

Erana Stanbridge —

The Level 2 Geographers took our annual three-day, two-night trip to the Tongariro National Park, to conduct geographic research in the field.

Groups researched a range of different topics, from measures of sustainability to evidence of past volcanic eruptions, to gather data for related achievement standards. It was wonderful to get out into the field, we felt lucky to go especially in these uncertain times.

Geography Field Trip

We explored the Tongariro National Park and gathered valuable information on various topics and ideas. Our group studied the human impact on the natural environment and found that human interaction has both negatively and positively impacted the Tongariro environment.
During the trip we did an almighty tramp to Soda Springs, we saw some spectacular views, and gathered data in the field on the way. We walked the Tawhai Falls Track, visited the Giant Carrot, the gumboot in Taihape, and saw the bright lights of Waiouru. My personal highlight was minigolf with the legend Mr Eric Clarke in National Park.
This is an annual trip which I would highly recommend to like-minded geography connoisseurs.
