Education Review Office-Update!
How did the ERO audit go? Pānuingia!
Last term, we welcomed Frances Ruawai-Hamilton and her team to our Kura, and they conducted their review over the course of three days.
What is the actual purpose of the review? Basically, the review seeks to answer questions like the following:
-Does the Kura deliver on its core outcomes?
We are a Kura ā-Iwi- our special designated character is Ngāti Manawatanga. Are we delivering on this kaupapa?
-Are Uri achieving? To what standard?
-Are Uri happy and engaged?
-How do we engage with our whānau? How do we inform about Uri achievement?
-Do our systems and policies protect our unique kaupapa Uri and uplift achievement?
-Are we fit for purpose?
Their visit consisted of a series of hui and observations.
The first session was a hui for all whānau associated with the Kura to come and talk and share experiences with Frances's team. We as a Kāhui Pouako were blown away by the number of whānau who supported this kaupapa and came to kōrero. We had Uri alumni(ex-students), ex-Pouako, nannies, koro, siblings, dads, mums, you name it, whānau turned out in force. The ERO team, in their verbal summary to our staff, pointed out how fabulous whānau contribution was in that hui-kikī a Manaakitanga i te tangata!
Ka nui te mihi kai ngā whānau piripono o te kura.
The second day began with observations in akomanga. The full team came into Manaakitanga to observe our Japanese session with tau 5-12. Kotahi te kupu-subarashikatta! Business as usual for us! Uri flipping in and out of Reo Māori and Japanese with ease.
During their visit we had numerous hui-leadership, senior staff, Pou Marumaru members, pakeke, which meant everyone who has a vested interest in our Kura had an opportunity to respond to questions, to share whakaaro. A lot of documentation was requested prior to their visit which included:
-Ngāti Manawatanga curriculum and resources
-Uri achievement statistics
-Kura policies
-Assessment types and evidence
-Reports
-samples of Huarahi Motuhake
-samples of Uri assessment/evidence
-Hui minutes
A full comprehensive review from A-Z.
On the last day, Frances gave a verbal summary of their findings to our leadership and whānau members. What was the outcome?
Kai te pai te haere o tēnei kura. Kāre i te kitea he wahanga e raru nei.
All is well-there are no issues.
