Mānawatia a Mataariki! Kingi Raiona!
E kore ā muri e hokia! Hakuna Matata-Kai wareware!
As a Kura, we have since our inception in 2000, always acknowledged, celebrated, welcomed, and valued Te Mataariki-Te Tau hou Māori.
Over the years we have held dawn karakia, hākari hāngi, mahi rourou, whakataetae poutoti, whakarauora tikanga o nehe-as a core, foundational Ngāti Manawa curriculum component. Above all we farewell all those who have passed from last Matariki through to this Matariki.
This year, we were fortunate enough to secure tickets to take our Uri to view Te Kingi Raiona-The Lion King, in te reo Māori.
What a momentous occasion for our Uri and whānau alike! To watch a full length, Disney movie completely in te reo Māori and to see our Uri laughing along and singing all the waiata was such a highlight for us as pouako.
It's one thing to go to the movies to watch a Disney show in English like everyone else in Aotearoa but it is a whole other ball game to watch and understand a show completely in Te Reo Māori.
What a way to welcome in Mataariki!
Nau mai whakatau mai rā! Tū te ihi tū te wanawana Mataariki Ahunga nui-tau mai rā!
