Tū Māia —

Station 1 - Chopsticks
As we wrap up for the end of term 3 what better way to finish by celebrating the Chinese Language week. With the guidance of Kweyi Lão shī-our pouako for Mandarin Language-each Poumahi was tasked with an activity for Uri. The objective for this station as you’ll see from the video was to teach Uri how to use chopsticks.

A small introduction followed by learning to place their chopsticks in their hand and finally games on to practice the technique. Difficulty for some manipulating chopsticks in the beginning improved after lollies were the prize to pick up. Funny that nē Uri mā. Encouragement was definitely the key and by the end of the session it was exciting to see the smiles and laughter once they achieved the goal set out for them.

Station 2 – Tug of War
Karawhiua Uri mā. Out came brute muscle strength and clever placement in tug of war. Each akomanga had the chance to practice with the final being a tug of war between two mixed teams of Uri from Tāu 1-12. Again heaps of laughter check out the video mātua mā.

Station 3 -Ako waiata
At this station Uri practiced a song they had been learning over the term. Musical chairs while singing the song was the task. Get you Uri to sing their new Mandarin song. Ka rawe Uri mā.

Station 4 – Tangrams
Uri had a set time within which to complete a number of tangrams. Spatial awareness and an eye for patterns proved the winning combo here. Our day as usual was topped off with a delicious kai of pork buns and fortune cookies galore. We would like to acknowledge Kweyi Lão shī for organising the activities and the delicious spread of kai for all our Uri.
