MANAAKI MANUHIRI
Manaakitanga is one of the 7 Uara of the Kura. It is thoughtfulness, generosity, making sure others are okay. The whakataukī, ‘Mā muri, mā mua, ka ora te iwi’ best describes this significant aspect of the Māori value system. When the front and back work together it is ensured that the manuhiri is properly taken care of.
Manaaki Manuhiri is an integral subject for Uri Tau 9-11, as they can also gain NCEA credits. Te Kiri o Tūī have been working hard learning new skills throughout the term culminating in preparing a meal to present to manuhiri. Last week, Te Kiri o Tūī welcomed Whaea Marewa, Whaea Tina, and Matua Johnny to be their manuhiri, and to thank them for their support in the English Reading Programme. Te Rautāwhiri joined the manuhiri as well and their feedback was appreciated. Manaaki Manuhiri is an awesome kaupapa where Uri can draw on different skills that are inherent within their whānau, while also getting credits for their mahi!
Te mīharo hoki, e Te Kiri o Tūī!
