Student Leaders - Others Matter

Simon Moriarty —

This year our student leaders decided to show that "Others Matter" by supporting the Clothed in Love Organisation.

Clothed in Love collects quality pre-loved clothing and re-gifts it to familes in need. A HUGE thank you to our community for your generosity.

Below is an Honour Post by Clothed in Love:

Recently the fabulous Te Ahi Kaikōmako Rolleston School Group Leaders planned and ran a Clothing Drive in the first four weeks of this term. Their goal was to collect clothing and books to donate for our packs heading out to communities. Supported by one of their lovely teachers, Katie Pratt, these students communicated to their school community the plan and collection details.

To say we were blown away by their hard work is an understatement - photos sent through were of smiling, joyful students surrounded by incredibly organised boxes of clothing of all the sizes we collect. Our team was even more impressed when it arrived on site so well organised that we were able to send out items as quickly as they arrived.

Te Ahi Kaikōmako Rolleston School learns under the quote ‘Standing Together Ignites Our Learning’ and this certainly was evident from the mahi they did running this clothing drive as they brought so many people together to do so with such success.

We always love to honour children helping children and see the importance of looking outside themselves and realising what a difference they can make in their world. Their beautiful statement and values read…” At Te Ahi Kaikōmako Rolleston School we recognise that: Others Matter, You Have Value and We Succeed Together through our School Values of being…Respectful, Kind, Responsible, Resilient, Connected. In carrying out this clothing and book drive the Group Leaders and school showed respect and kindness to the whānau we support through Clothed in Love as well as responsibility and connection through their whole school by bringing together so many people to donate, sort and then giving to others.

It is so heartwarming to see this in action and our team as well as everyone we support are so appreciative. So to Katie, the students and all the wider community of Te Ahi Kaikōmako Rolleston School thank you, thank you, thank you. Your hard work and enthusiasm have collected so many wonderful items to put into packs that will bless many children, families and communities. This reminds them that they have many people behind them supporting them through a current season of need and providing children with a sense of confidence, value and feeling loved. What a beautiful gift you have given. We honour you and are so grateful. Arohanui.
