Principal's Pen

Simon Moriarty —

Hi team. Firstly I want to extend another massive welcome to all new staff, tamariki, and whānau to Te Ahi Kaikōmako Rolleston School. We are really looking forward to reconnecting with you all over the course of the 2023 school year. It was great to officially welcome all our new staff, tamariki, and whānau at last Friday's mihi whakatau.

We hope to see as many of you as possible at next week's "Making Connections" meetings. This information was sent out earlier this week via HERO & Facebook and a further article is in this newsletter. Bookings close at 2 pm today.

Staff Thank You

Thank you to our amazing staff who have worked incredibly hard to set up the 2023 school year. The three days we spent together prior to school starting were invaluable to ensuring our students felt welcomed and connected to their classroom, team, and teacher. We ended our three days together engaging in a social game of lawn bowls at the Lincoln Bowling Club where we certainly saw a wide range of skill levels on show.

E Tū Tāngata - Stand Together

At Te Ahi Kaikōmako Rolleston School we recognise that: Others Matter, You Have Value and We Succeed Together through our School Values of being:

*Respectful

*Kind

*Responsible

*Resilient

*Connected

We are committed to the journey of making a cultural shift within NZ Society and tackling the "Tall Poppy" Syndrome to transform communities. HOW? By allowing us all to E Tū Tāngata - Stand Tall and realise that we are ALL 10/10 people.

TO TAKE THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS TRANSFORMATION:

A person must understand and believe that you have value (ME). This flows on to understanding the worth of others and identifying how, collectively, a classroom, workplace, or community can succeed together (WE).

Finally, an individual understands what it means to be a part of something bigger than themselves. This involves looking outside of their classroom, workplace, or community and recognising that others matter (OTHERS).

This inspires the question: how can we E Tū Tāngata throughout the wider community?
