Road Safety Reminders

Simon Moriarty —

We continue to take the Health & Safety of our tamariki very seriously. This includes our desire that all our students are safe when traveling to and from school. We all need to continue to remain vigilant especially when picking up and dropping off using a vehicle. Here are some important reminders.

Drop Off & Pick Up (Kiss & Go)

The "Kiss & Go" zone is on Tennyson Street outside the school. Please remain in your vehicles when using this zone and move on from this area as quickly as possible.

It is a good idea to inform your children to wait in this area so they are ready to go.

PLEASE NO PARKING ON THE YELLOW LINES.

Parking

The school has limited parking options. The council has advised that the main car parking option is down the side streets off Tennyson Street. The car parks behind the school around Norman Kirk Drive are council parks for the Health Hub. They are not to be used by parents/caregivers. We also have local businesses around the school, including an Osteopath Clinic in front of the staff car park. These are obviously for clients only.

Safe Driving Habits

Please continue to be extra vigilant when driving around the school. This includes checking and double checking before reversing, no U-Turns around the Tennyson Street Road Patrol, and continuing to abide by the speed limit of 30km/ph. Children can be unpredictable and don't have the same awareness as we do as adults.

Road Patrol

Our School is situated on a very busy road and to help us with keeping our tamariki safe we implemented a 'split sign system' around 18 months ago. All our fantastic road patrollers are trained in this system and it has proven to work - it allows traffic to flow and also our tamariki to cross safely and quickly. Please see attached the visual created when we changed to the split system.

Tennyson Street has remained extremely busy and late last year the Selwyn District Council changed the speed limit along Tennyson Street (from the new traffic lights down to the roundabout by KFC) to 30 KM/H.
When heading down Tennyson, we ask our hapori to * stick to the speed limit - 30 km/h* watch for the signs... our patrollers only need to put one sign out to stop all traffic.* be vigilant around our kura... we want all our tamariki to be safe arriving and leaving our learning space.
