This contact MAY include information posted on HERO Community Feed Portal, emails (both yours and your child(ren)'s if they have a school email address), Google Hangouts, Zoom, Seesaw, Google Classroom. A copy of your child(ren)'s classroom teacher email address can be found on either the staff contacts link or team link. Please feel free at any time between 8.30am - 3.00pm for you or your children to email their classroom teacher with any kindness, questions, comments or concerns. A GREAT STARTER ACTIVITY could be to support you child(ren) to write their teacher an email telling them all about their "At Home Adventures".
- Student Online Learning Time: One way teachers will be interacting with student learning and providing feedback is through set daily learning times. This will be an opportunity for your students to connect with their teacher online via platforms such as Zoom, Google Classroom, SeeSaw, Google Hangouts (your classroom teacher will provide instructions on how to connect to these sessions). The purpose of these daily sessions will be:
teaching within one aspect of the curriculum (eg reading, writing, maths etc...)
checking on student wellbeing providing an opportunity for our students to connect with each other and their teacher
answering learning questions or providing additional feedback on tasks.
To ensure that every student has the opportunity to engage with their teacher the following timetable has been created so a shared home learning device can be supported:
Team Rata - 9.15am - 10am
Team Kowhai - 10am - 10.45am
Team Totara - 10.45am - 11.30am
Team Pohutukawa - 11.30am - 12.15pm
Team Kahikatea - 12.15pm - 1pm
Afternoon sessions (1pm - 3pm) maybe used by staff that were unable to commit to the morning session due to other commitments. Staff will also use this time for staff meetings if and when required.
Any questions please email your child's classroom teacher.
Te Ahi Kaikōmako Rolleston School - Netiquette Being Respectful Online
An important aspect of online learning is for our children to understand their responsibilities to ensure they are safe and respectful online, particularly during online learning time. Please support your children's classroom teacher by discussing and role modelling the following:
- Access to Devices or Additional Hardcopy Materials: This will be organised in due course. If you would like to request hard copy packs and/or a device please email your child's classroom teacher or admin@rolleston.school.nz. Device availability will depend on the amount of learners currently learning at school.
- In the short term there will be plenty of online learning options that does not rely on a device eg. reading, writing, art, fitness or other creative activities.
- Additionally, the Ministry of Education is currently looking into solutions to support additional hardcopy materials for everyone who requested this option.
Developing Learning Routines: tips & reminders
- if you or your child does not understand the learning.....please don't stress. If the activity is becoming stressful to you or your child take a break. Feel free to contact your teacher.
- set learning activities and routines that suit you and your family. We do not expect all the activities provided to be completed OR want children staring at devices from 9am-3pm.
- Keep It Simple
- Keep It Manageable
- Keep It Stress free and FUN!!!
