Kia ora Te Ahi Kaikōmako Rolleston Kura!
Over the last 3 weeks, our Kahikatea and Pōhutukawa tamariki have visited Te Pā o Moki - Te Taumutu Marae on the banks of Lake Ellesmere (Te Waihora). As part of our Aotearoa New Zealand History Studies, our tamariki were welcomed onto the Marae and had the opportunity to recite their Mihi in an authentic context. Our groups were told stories relevant to Te Waipounamu (South Island) and specifically Ngai Tahu and the people of Taumutu. Our tamariki participated in hands-on activities such as Harakeke, Rakau, and treks through the wetlands identifying flora and fauna (weather permitting).
Thank you so much to our parents who provided transport for our classes, participated in mihi, and also learnt alongside our tamariki.
Thank you to our kaiako for providing this excellent opportunity for our tamariki and thank you to the amazing Fiona at Ngati Moki for teaching us!
You are all tumeke!!!!
