Illness at School

Melissa Langley —

To stop sickness from spreading, it is important for you to keep your child at home when they are ill, and not send them to school. We have noticed students are returning to school too soon and passing bugs on to other students and staff.

When your child catches an illness, there will be an incubation period before they show symptoms.  Some illnesses are infectious before symptoms show; some are infectious even after symptoms have disappeared.  How long they should be home depends on what illness they have and you can find more information on this here: https://www.healthed.govt.nz/system/files/resource-files/HE1215_Infectious%20diseases%20card.pdf

Please ensure that your contact numbers (and emergency contact people/numbers) are current, as we are simply not equipped to look after students at school when they are unwell.

Please show courtesy to other families by making the necessary arrangements to ensure students are back to full health before returning to school, particularly with gastric/tummy bugs.

Students that have had vomiting and/or diarrhoea need to be kept at home for at least 48 hours from the last time they were sick.
