Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori - Māori Language Week

Whaea Sandra, Whaea Buffy, Whaea Ruby & Whaea Anna —

Our school plays an active role in revitalising the Māori language, and celebrating and promoting te reo Māori. Māori language week is an opportunity for concentrated celebration, promotion and encouragement.

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week has been celebrated in New Zealand since 1975. It acknowledges and celebrates the Māori language as a unique cultural treasure for all New Zealanders. The theme is: Kia Kaha te Reo Māori - Let's make the Māori language strong.

The clip below is very cool indeed, as our Kāhu Rua learners weave together English / Te Reo Māori AND NZ Sign Language. What's even more special is that for many students in this clip, English is not their main language.
