Samoa Language Week

Ruby Maine-More & Nikki McAskie —

We recently celebrated Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoa Language Week ๐Ÿ‡ผ๐Ÿ‡ธ

During the week, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Gracefully Pasifika & it was wonderful to spot some current & past Te Ao Mฤrama students performing in this group.

Many of our students learnt a little more about the Samoan language and culture throughout the week & our staff also enjoyed a delicious Samoan shared lunch.

Gagana Samoa is the most spoken Pacific language in New Zealand, with Samoans being the biggest Pacific group in Aotearoa. Itโ€™s also the third most spoken language in the country โ€“ behind English and Te Reo Mฤori โ€“ and the second most spoken language in Tฤmaki Makaurau (Auckland). Samoa Language Week celebrates the identity, language, and culture of students & families from Samoa.
