A final word from Tony – 2021 Another “mucky” year!

Tony Grey —

Today we finish the school year and it’s fair to say that it again has been somewhat surreal, and in many ways more disruptive than 2020!

Our schoolwide vision is to INSPIRE CHALLENGE & EMPOWER, and to develop learners that are confident, curious, collaborative, creative & community-minded. The ongoing global pandemic is a timely reminder of the importance of our vision and values, and general approach to teaching and learning.

Despite the challenges that 2021 posed, I am again immensely proud of how our staff, whānau, & students supported each other during these trying times, and continued to ensure we maintain a culture of togetherness and learning.

Even though it has been tough we should also remember to celebrate the fact children never stop learning. It is important we take stock of things and allow a moment to reflect and acknowledge what has been achieved.

It was pleasing to see this reflected in the results of our Community Engagement Survey (please see separate article)

Last week it was nice to see so many of our parents at our Hui-ā-whānau (student/parent/teacher meetings). It was great to see our learners lead this process, share their learning, and celebrate the highlights of the year.

I wish you and your whānau a safe and happy holiday, and hopefully a chance to relax & rejuvenate.

To those whose children are finishing at Te Ao Mārama, we wish you all the best for the future, and to those returning in 2022, we look forward to seeing you next year.
